Comfort and her two sons moved into their Equfund property in 2014. She told us, “After we were granted Leave to Remain we were given 28 days to move out of our previous accommodation. It was a short space of time and we had no experience of renting.
One fateful day, as I was walking my son home from school, we spotted a To Let sign. I phoned the number and found Equfund. I spoke to a lovely lady who directed me accordingly. We needed a property two minutes from my son’s school. Having lived in that area, we have made friends from our neighbours which made us safe.
After viewing the property I knew it was for us and we were excited when we were offered it. Laura—our house manager—has been very nice and understanding, explaining the process in a way which was easy for me to understand.
Equfund workmen are friendly and whenever something needs fixing, they come very quickly. You hear about landlords and workmen who don’t come when they say, but that’s not my experience with Equfund. If something needs doing, they will happily do it. They’re always polite and professional.
My neighbours have been amazing. My children and I call the local woman ‘Aunty’ and ‘Nan.’ We drink tea and coffee together and if I’m ever running late they look after my children for me. I wouldn’t swap my neighbours for the world.
We have been welcomed so much, it’s been so positive for us living here. When it’s my children’s birthday, you would not believe the gifts and cards we receive. I’m proud that my elder son plays for the local basketball team. I go to watch on courts around the corner and if I can’t make it to see him play—as I work at the local community centre—my neighbours text to tell me how his game is going.
I wanted to live somewhere I felt safe, that’s all I wanted and now feel happy and comfortable. As my sons grow we will outgrow our current two-bedroom home. I’m working with Equfund to secure a larger house for me and my family nearby.”
